If a gas stove ever smells of gas, leave the house and call SDG&E or 911 from outside before anything else. Short of that, a burner that clicks but won't light is usually a dirty or cracked igniter, and an oven that won't heat is often a weak igniter or a failed element.
Built-in and panel-ready units take more care to pull out and reinstall, so mention the model when you book and we can plan the visit around it.

Electric stove coils: the swap test
Coil-top stoves are still common in older apartments and rentals around National City and western Chula Vista, and they're among the easiest appliances to troubleshoot. Each coil plugs into a receptacle and is controlled by an infinite switch behind its knob, which clicks the coil on and off in proportions to give you low, medium and high.
With the stove off and cool, unplug the dead coil and plug it into a same-size spot that works. If it heats there, replace the coil. If the spot it came from is still dead with a known-good coil, the receptacle or the switch is at fault. A receptacle that's blackened, loose or melted must be replaced, and the coil that was in it usually needs replacing too, because burned terminals damage each other.
A coil that only works on high, or glows red even when set to low, points to a failed infinite switch. A coil that's warped or doesn't sit flat cooks unevenly and is cheap to replace.
