A drain pan with a connected drain line catches small leaks, and an inexpensive water sensor on the floor gives an early warning. If the washer stops mid-cycle with water in the drum, shows a drain error or smells musty, have it looked at before a pump or seal fails completely.

Many kitchens in Santaluz, 4S Ranch and Poway's custom homes use column refrigerators, built-in side-by-sides, dual-fuel ranges and separate wall ovens. These appliances are built for long service but have their own weak spots: condenser coils hidden behind a top grille that rarely gets cleaned, door hinges that sag on heavy panel doors, and igniters and sensors that work harder on high-output burners.
