The Speed Queen design choices a technician has to know
Speed Queen is made by Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon, Wisconsin, which also builds commercial laundromat machines. Its home washers and dryers use heavy commercial-style parts and are known for long service lives. Speed Queen has built washing machines since the early twentieth century and kept making heavy home laundry after most competitors moved to lighter designs. Speed Queen's home line includes the TC5 classic top-loader, the TR top-loader with modern controls, the FF7 front-loader and matching dryers. It is chosen by owners who want long service life over features.
In practical terms, a Speed Queen is defined by TC5 top-load washers with an agitator and mechanical controls, TR top-load and FF7 front-load models, heavy steel cabinets and transmissions, and commercial-style dryer drums and heating systems. Speed Queen machines are built to last, so repairing an older unit is usually reasonable rather than borderline.
