Before you call: range trouble in El Cajon

Santa Ana wind events bring heat waves and the occasional outage to El Cajon, and the surge when power returns is hard on electronic control boards. On a range, most no-heat problems come down to an igniter, a bake or broil element, or a temperature sensor, and we test each before ordering parts.

In mobile homes, appliances are often fitted into tight spaces, so mention the home type when you book and we'll plan for it.

The anti-tip bracket and why it matters

Every freestanding and slide-in range sold for home use comes with an anti-tip bracket, a metal piece screwed to the floor or wall that catches a rear leg. Without it, a child standing on the open oven door or someone leaning a heavy roasting pan on the door can pull the whole range forward, along with whatever is cooking on top. It's one of the most important safety parts in the kitchen and one of the most often missing.

Brackets get left behind when a range is pulled out for cleaning, moved by tenants or replaced without the bracket being reinstalled. To check yours, grab the backguard or rear cooktop edge and try gently tipping the range forward; it shouldn't lift more than a fraction of an inch. Many manuals also show where to look for the bracket under the storage drawer. When we pull a range out for service, re-engaging the bracket is part of putting it back.
