GE cooktop repair: what to know
When we open up a GE cooktop, the design tells us where to look: GE cooktops include gas, radiant electric and induction models, with Café and Monogram versions in 30 and 36-inch widths.
Most calls for GE cooktops come down to spark modules and igniters, infinite switches on radiant tops, induction power boards, or cracked glass surfaces. In plain terms, the complaints we hear are burners clicking without lighting, radiant element stuck on high, and induction zone not detecting the pan. If every gas burner clicks when you turn just one knob, a wet or shorted switch is usually the cause; let the top dry fully before calling it a module fault. A radiant element that will not turn off usually has a failed switch or relay.
On GE gas cooktops every burner shares one spark module, so a wet or failed switch on one knob can make all of them click. Radiant tops use infinite switches that wear and can leave an element stuck on high or off entirely. Induction tops add power boards and cooling fans, and a fan fault can cause zones to shut down that looks like a board failure.
In condo kitchens, a built-in cooktop sits in tight cabinetry, so ventilation beneath it matters, especially in units without air conditioning. Before quoting, we confirm the cookware, the supply voltage and any error code the cooktop shows.
Parts for current GE, Profile and Café models move through a large national distribution network and are usually a few days out, while trim and control parts for older models can take longer. For the cracked glass surfaces, as for any repair, the price is agreed in writing first.
Use cookware that suits the cooktop type, especially on induction. If you are seeing burners clicking without lighting, or anything else off with your GE cooktop, book a visit and we will confirm the cause before quoting.
