Miele dryer repair: what to know
Current Miele dryers are mostly ventless heat-pump models in 24-inch size, often stacked over a matching washer, which dry at lower temperatures than vented dryers.
Plinth filter and heat exchanger lint buildup, condensate pump and drain hose faults, heat-pump compressor faults, and moisture sensor contamination are the repairs we see most often on Miele dryers. What people tend to notice first: clothes still damp after a full cycle, condensate container warning, and lint filter alert that won't clear. Long drying times on a Miele heat-pump dryer most often trace to a clogged plinth filter behind the lower front panel, which should be rinsed regularly. A dryer that runs but takes two or three cycles is usually fighting a restricted vent, not a failing heater.
A heat-pump dryer moves heat through a sealed refrigerant circuit and two fine heat exchangers, so lint on those surfaces cuts performance long before anything fails electrically. A slow-drying complaint on a Miele is usually filters or a dirty exchanger, and condemning the compressor without cleaning first is a costly mistake. When the condensate pump fails, the dryer often stops with a fault rather than leaking, which points straight at the pump or its hose.
Garage laundry often means a long vent run through a wall or the roof, and long runs collect lint quickly, which is behind many slow-drying complaints on a dryer here. Diagnosis covers the vent, the heating circuit and the belt, pulley and rollers, in that order.
A Miele heat-pump dryer that takes too long usually has a clogged plinth filter or lint on the heat exchanger rather than a failed compressor. Once the cause is confirmed, whether the moisture sensor contamination or something less obvious, the estimate is in writing and the repair is warranted.
Use rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, keep the run as short as possible, and avoid crushing it behind the machine. If clothes still damp after a full cycle sounds familiar, note the model number and any code before you book a diagnosis.
