Roper dryer repair: what to know
When we open up a Roper dryer, the design tells us where to look: Roper dryers share Whirlpool's belt-drive design in both electric and gas versions.
Most calls for Roper dryers come down to thermal fuse, heating element or igniter, belt, or idler pulley. From the owner's side, the usual signs are these: no heat, drum not turning, and squeaking. A broken belt on a Roper dryer lets the motor hum while the drum stays still. If the dryer stops partway through a cycle, a tripping thermal limit from poor airflow is a likely cause.
Roper dryers use Whirlpool's belt, idler and drum-roller design, so a thumping or squealing drum usually needs those wear parts rather than a motor. Electric models lose heat when a thermal fuse or element fails, while gas models need the igniter and valve coils checked. Parts are inexpensive, so even older Roper dryers are often worth repairing.
Near the coast, the marine layer keeps garages damp and salt air reaches the dryer's vent hood and exhaust ductwork, so lint clings and metal parts corrode. We measure exhaust airflow and temperature before replacing anything, because a blocked vent can make a good dryer look broken.
Roper dryers need short, clear vents, and Roper ranges need their anti-tip brackets installed. For the idler pulley, as for any repair, the price is agreed in writing first.
Check that the outside vent flap opens freely while the dryer runs. If you are seeing no heat, or anything else off with your Roper dryer, book a visit and we will confirm the cause before quoting.
