KitchenAid oven repair: what to know
As background for KitchenAid oven owners, KitchenAid wall ovens and range ovens use Even-Heat true convection, with a third heating element behind the rear fan on many models.
Look first at convection elements and fans, bake elements, temperature sensors, and control boards; those are where KitchenAid ovens tend to give out. On a service call, the description is usually one of these: convection fan not running, oven running hot or cold, and bake element not heating. If baking is uneven only in convection mode, check that the rear fan spins and the cover is not loose, which points to the convection element or motor. If the oven heats but will not reach temperature, check whether the bake or broil element has a visible break or blister.
Even-Heat convection uses a separate element and fan at the back, so a unit that bakes fine but heats unevenly on convection usually needs that element or motor. Temperature sensors drift over time and can cause both overshoot and undershoot. Boards are tested last because they cost the most.
Outages and surges during Santa Ana season are hard on oven control boards and touch panels, and an oven that went dark after a power event needs the board checked before anything else. An oven visit starts with a temperature test, then elements or igniter, sensor resistance and the control.
A KitchenAid oven that bakes unevenly usually has a failing bake element or a temperature sensor out of range. You approve the price for the control boards, or whatever the diagnosis finds, before we start the repair.
Replace the door gasket if it is torn or flattened; heat loss makes the oven work harder. Convection fan not running is a repair worth booking sooner rather than later on a KitchenAid oven.
