True repair in San Diego: the brand behind the badge
True Manufacturing is a family-owned refrigeration maker in O'Fallon, Missouri, building reach-ins, glass-door merchandisers and prep tables for foodservice. Its True Residential line brings the same build quality to under-counter, column and wine storage units for homes. True Manufacturing was started by the Trulaske family, which still runs it. Its glass-door merchandisers are a fixture in convenience stores and restaurants.
Most of the service work traces back to a few design choices: forced-air reach-in refrigeration, GDM glass-door merchandisers, hydrocarbon (R290) refrigeration on current models, and True Residential under-counter and column units. True units are built for continuous duty, so most failures trace back to dirty condensers, worn gaskets or failed fans rather than the sealed system.
What breaks on a True
The pattern we see on True is consistent: door gaskets, condenser and evaporator fan motors, defrost timers and heaters on freezers, temperature controls, and door hinges and closers.
With True refrigerators, we most often find condenser fan motors, evaporator fans, temperature controls, and door gaskets. With True freezers, we most often find defrost timers and heaters, evaporator fans, door heaters, and gaskets. The wine coolers side of the line brings us fans, temperature controls, door seals, and condensers.
The expensive mistake on True equipment is replacing a board or a sealed-system part on a hunch. We test the circuit under load and rule out the cheap causes first.
True parts, warranty and lead times
True parts are widely available through commercial distribution, and many common parts are shared across models. True equipment is designed for continuous commercial duty, so wear runs on hours and cycles rather than on calendar age.
True equipment is almost always worth repairing because the cabinets last for years and parts are easy to get. We put the price in writing up front and back the finished job with 90 days on parts and 30 days on labor.
What San Diego conditions do to a True
True reach-ins in beach-area restaurants and bars see salt air on condenser coils and fan motors, so corrosion often shows before wear. The inland valleys get hot enough that garage-installed True refrigerators, freezers, and wine coolers struggle; the compressor runs long, the condenser can't shed heat, and the fresh-food side drifts warm by late afternoon.
Many coastal homes have no central air, so a kitchen holding a True can run well above room temperature on a hot day, and refrigeration and electronics both feel it. Our visits cover True owners from National City to Mission Valley and points between.
Getting more years from a True
Clean the True condenser coil monthly in a busy kitchen and check door gaskets during each cleaning. A garage fan or a vent near the ceiling can take the edge off summer heat for appliances that live out there. In a kitchen without air conditioning, keep the refrigerator's air path clear and away from the oven's heat.
Same-day visits are possible when the schedule allows; either way, you get a written estimate before work starts.
Looking for model numbers, recall notices or warranty registration? Those live on the manufacturer's own site: True official site. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with True.
