On freestanding Whirlpool stoves the top uses either sealed gas burners or coil and smooth-top electric elements.

The Whirlpool stove jobs on our schedule are mostly coil element and receptacle burnout, spark igniter faults, infinite switch failure, and burner port clogging. On a service call, the description is usually one of these: coil burner not heating, burner flame uneven, and igniter will not spark. Swap a coil element into a working socket; if it heats there, the problem is the receptacle or switch, not the element. A gas burner with a yellow or lifting flame needs its ports and air setting checked; a healthy flame is blue and steady.

On coil-element Whirlpool stoves, a loose element arcs at its receptacle and slowly burns it, so a burner that works only when wiggled needs both parts. Sealed gas burners have small ports that clog with boil-overs, giving a weak or uneven flame that is fixed by cleaning rather than parts. These are among the least expensive cooking repairs we do.

Near the coast, damp air and boil-overs make stove igniters slower to spark, and corrosion on the burner base follows. A stove visit starts at the burner that misbehaves: igniter, cap, port and switch, then the spark module or the element supply.

Because the same Whirlpool platform turns up under several brand names, the model number tells us more about the repair than the badge does. The estimate for the coil element and receptacle burnout or any other fault is written, itemized and agreed before work begins.
