LG dishwasher repair: what to know
As background for LG dishwasher owners, LG dishwashers use QuadWash spray arms, an inverter direct-drive wash motor and, on many models, TrueSteam cycles.
Look first at drain pump or check valve faults, leak sensor tripping with water in the base, door latch failure, and control board errors after a leak; those are where LG dishwashers tend to give out. Owners typically call us about one of these: AE or E1 leak error, OE error with water left in the tub, and dishes not getting clean on the top rack. An AE or E1 code means water reached the leak sensor in the base, so look for a cracked tub seal or overflowing suds from the wrong detergent. A dishwasher that will not start may have a door latch switch or a control fault, and the door latch is checked first.
The direct-drive wash motor is reliable, so poor cleaning on an LG dishwasher is far more often a clogged filter or a blocked spray arm than a motor failure. Leak-sensor codes can be caused by suds from regular dish soap as easily as by a real leak, and the base pan must be dried before the code will clear. Control boards that fail after a leak are usually a symptom, so the source of the water has to be fixed in the same visit.
In condos and high-rises, a leaking dishwasher can reach the unit below, so supply-line and drain connections get extra scrutiny. Before quoting, we check the door latch, inlet valve and drain hose loop, which explain a lot of dishwasher complaints.
You approve the price for the drain pump or check valve faults, or whatever the diagnosis finds, before we start the repair.
Use rinse aid in hard-water areas; it helps drying and cuts spotting. OE error with water left in the tub is a repair worth booking sooner rather than later on an LG dishwasher.
