LG washer repair: what to know
Before any LG washer repair, it helps to know the hardware: LG sells both front-load and top-load washers, nearly all with direct-drive motors, and many with TurboWash and steam cycles.
Expect the usual LG washer suspects: drain pump blocked by debris, door lock or lid lock failure, tub bearing wear, and rotor or stator faults. What people tend to notice first: OE drain error code, LE motor error on spin, and UE unbalanced load that will not clear. An OE code usually means water is not leaving the tub, so clear the small drain filter behind the lower front panel of a front-loader before calling. A washer that will not drain is often a blocked pump filter or a kinked hose rather than a failed pump.
Because the motor's rotor is mounted directly on the drum shaft, worn tub bearings show up as a roar during spin and can also damage the stator, so the two are inspected together. Many drain codes trace to a sock or coin in the pump trap rather than a failed pump. Bearing replacement on a front-loader means splitting the tub, which is often uneconomic on an older machine, while pumps, locks and stators are routine repairs.
Hard imported water scales the inlet valve screens on a washer, and slow fills and cycle errors often trace back to them. On a washer call we check the drain filter, door lock or lid switch, inlet screens and suspension before opening the cabinet.
An LG washer showing an OE code usually has a clogged drain pump filter or a kinked drain hose rather than a dead pump. We price the tub bearing wear and similar repairs in writing before any work starts.
Do not overload the drum, and use the right amount of HE detergent; too much soap causes more problems than too little. Have the model and serial ready when you call about door lock dE error; it lets us check parts first.
