Most LG freezer space comes in bottom-freezer and French-door refrigerators, and the standalone LG freezer lineup is small.

Defrost heater or sensor failure, frost buildup on the evaporator, ice maker jams in the freezer drawer, and drawer slides and gaskets are the repairs we see most often on LG freezers. On a service call, the description is usually one of these: frost building on the back panel, freezer drawer not closing fully, and ice maker stopped producing. Frost on the back wall of the freezer drawer usually means the defrost system has failed, and a manual thaw only buys a few days. A freezer that cycles on and off every few minutes may have a failing thermostat or an overheating compressor tripping its overload.

In LG bottom-freezer and French-door units, the freezer evaporator also cools the fresh-food side, so a defrost failure in the freezer often shows up first as a warm refrigerator. The drawer ice maker sits in a tight space and jams when cubes fuse together after a power interruption. Defrost heaters, sensors and drawer slides are moderate repairs that usually make sense on a unit that otherwise cools well.

Most standalone freezers here live in the garage, and an East County garage in August is a hard place for a freezer not rated for that heat. On a freezer call we check the condenser fan, start relay and defrost system before looking at the sealed system.

Once the cause is confirmed, whether the ice maker jams in the freezer drawer or something less obvious, the estimate is in writing and the repair is warranted.
